Caley Thistle defender Gary Warren is eager to resume action in a bid to make amends for the 4-0 defeat at St Johnstone last time out.
Terry Butcher’s players had made a superb start to the season and were flying high at the top of the table after eight games. But a dismal show in Perth on October 5 saw Caley Jags leap-frogged by Celtic.
Then came the international break and Inverness must wait until Sunday for their next game – at home to Partick Thistle.
Warren said: “Ideally, we would have played straight away. I would have wanted a game the day after if possible. That was not going to happen, so we have had to regroup and think about how we are going to play and perform in the next game.
“We have had a bit of time before the Partick Thistle match to put the St Johnstone performance behind us and get things right.”
Warren was slightly surprised by manager Butcher’s calm reaction to his side’s 4-0 thrashing at Perth but he and his team-mates already knew they had let themselves down with a poor display.
He said: “We know when we haven’t played well. Sometimes it is doesn’t always work to your benefit when a manager comes in shouting and screaming and it didn’t happen after the St Johnstone match, although we had fully expected him to.
“We were frustrated and disappointed.
“We know the performance was below par and it is up to us to regroup and get back to our usual standards.”
Inverness have lost Andrew Shinnie and Owain Tudur Jones from the team which finished fourth last season but Warren expects the new recruits to play their part.
Midfielder James Vincent – who has been ruled out until December because of a tibia injury – and goalkeeper Dean Brill have impressed but there are more waiting for their chance.
Warren said: “The challenge is to go even better than last season. We don’t want to be one-season wonders. We were disappointed to come up short for a European place after going so far last season and we want to be in the mix.”
