Robert Snodgrass is hoping for a long-awaited Scotland home win tomorrow so he can dedicate it to his newly-born daughter.
The Norwich midfielder’s partner, Denise, gave birth to Leonie last Thursday and the Glasgow-born player was allowed time away from the national squad to celebrate the new arrival.
Snodgrass returned north yesterday and has now turned his attention to defeating Croatia in Scotland’s final World Cup qualifier.
He said: “I am buzzing after the birth of our baby. I managed to train at the club last week and I think the adrenaline of fatherhood alone will get me through the game.
“I’m looking forward to training and seeing the players and I would like to thank the manager for being so understanding by letting me get everything sorted with my family.”
Snodgrass netted the winner in Zagreb and believes Scotland can defeat the Croatians again.
He said: “We went there with no one giving us a chance while Croatia still had hopes of topping the group. We worked hard in training for the week before, carried that effort and determination into the game and, fortunately, I managed to score.”
