Aberdeen International Airport (AIA) continued to grow its passenger figures during September.
Nearly 322,000 people used the terminal last month, a 6.3% increase on the total for September 2012, bosses said yesterday.
It was the fifth consecutive month of year-on-year improvement at the north-east gateway and the first with new managing director Carol Benzie at the helm.
Mrs Benzie, who took over as managing director from Nick Barton at the start of the month, said: “The week of Offshore Europe saw a huge influx of passengers as we expected.
“Our operational planning and engagement with airline and retail partners meant that week went well.
“We are also continuing to see underlying growth reflecting through in these figures and show a strong performance in Aberdeen.
“Recent news of the launch of some key services, such as Riga and Oslo, will ensure that this underlying growth continues.”
She said AIA bosses were continuing to monitor “the issues facing Aberdeen’s helicopter fleet operators” following the latest disruption to services caused by a ditching in the North Sea.
October figures will be hit by delays and cancellations after an air ambulance veered off the runway on Thursday.
The twin-engined aircraft, carrying a patient bound for Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, suffered steering difficulties while taxiing and ended up on a section of grass. No one was injured.
AIA was closed to all arriving and departing flights for two hours, with several flights diverted to Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Heathrow Airport Holdings, which owns AIA, said passenger numbers at its four airports grew by 3.5% last month, to 7.8million. London’s Heathrow Airport was up by 3.4% at 6.6million, while Glasgow and Southampton saw increases of 3.8% to 764,400 and 3.7% to 174,200 respectively.
