An Aberdeenshire councillor expects the authority’s new regional headquarters in Peterhead to be open ahead of schedule.
A £5million base for the Buchan area is being built in Peterhead to replace a number of buildings across the town.
Peterhead North and Rattray member Alan Buchan said work was progressing so well that builders could beat their deadline of March next year.
Last week, the first sod was cut and now work is well underway, with plant machinery already carving out the footprint of the new facility, which has the working name of Buchan House.
Mr Buchan said: “The contractors have moved quickly to clear the site and begin the ground work.
“We have a deadline of next March to move in but with speed of progress I think we could be in before then.”
A number of existing offices in the town – including the current HQ at Arbuthnot House – will be sold off when the new complex opens and some are already on the market.
