Former Scottish Secretary Jim Murphy is embarking on a 100-day tour soap-box across Scotland to campaign against independence.
The so-called Barrhead to Barra tour, which will take in 100 towns, will see the Labour MP organise street corner and public meetings to try and persuade people that Scotland has a bright future as part of the UK.
Mr Murphy, who is kicking off his tour today in Barrhead, is also holding a question and answer session later on St Michael Drive, Eriskay, South Uist at 4.30pm and at Castlebay Hall on Barra at 7.30pm.
Mr Murphy said: “This is the most important decision in Scotland’s history and I want to campaign in a different way.
“Over the next hundred days I will cross Scotland meeting people on their doorsteps and street corners and campaigning in a good old fashioned way.
“I’ll meet, listen and talk to people who want to know more about the referendum in cities, towns, villages, the mainland and islands throughout Scotland.
“Only by listening and speaking with people in Scotland will we get our message across that the brightest future for our country is to remain in the UK.”
Mr Murphy said he expected to be heckled by pro-independence supporters but claimed his biggest enemy was the weather.
“We need to get this decision right for the sake of our children, and their children,” he added.
“That’s why I want to make sure that people are able to ask questions about things they are worried about, like the impact leaving the UK would have on pensions and public services.”
Mr Murphy said he firmly believed Scotland could have the best of both worlds.
“We can have a strong Scottish Parliament, with the guarantee of more powers, backed up by the strength, security and stability of being part of the larger UK,” he added.
