Emergency services were called to Aberdeen International Airport yesterday after an offshore helicopter reported a technical problem while approaching the city.
Firefighters were sent to Dyce when a warning light came on in the cockpit of the Sikorsky S92. But the crews were stood down just as they arrived after the helicopter landed safely at the airport around noon.
The CHC-operated aircraft had been carrying workers home from the Beryl platform when the warning light came on.
A spokeswoman for the operator said the crew alerted air traffic control while they were still airborne, and continued on with their flight. She added that she was unable to say what had caused the caution light to come on as they were still awaiting an engineer’s report.
“We did have an aircraft experience a technical issue earlier today,” she said.
“It landed safely just after noon. The passengers and crew were not at risk and it is standard operating procedure for the crew to advise air traffic control.
“It was already coming home at the time so the crew followed protocol, reported it and carried on with the flight.
“It will be subject to a full engineering check and then the passengers will be briefed, as is standard.”
A spokesman for Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the incident had been “down graded” when they arrived on-scene, while a police spokeswoman said officers were aware of the incident.
