Inverness remain in second place despite defeats to Partick Thistle and St Johnstone, while County are in ninth, just three points off the league’s top six.
The rivals meet on Friday night and Gordon said: “I am not surprised Inverness have done well as they had a good season last year as well.
“They have not really made many changes to their team and have more or less stuck to the same 11 every week, but if they are winning games and doing well there is no need to change.
“It is interesting as you would expect maybe Aberdeen or Motherwell to be right up there and have that sort of run of form. But if we can get a win in the derby game it would be massive for us.
“It could knock their morale as well, getting beaten by your rivals is never a nice thing.”
The former Chelsea full-back is preparing for his first Highland derby and added: “All it will take is a couple of wins to give us a bit of momentum and push us up the table.”
