Fraser MacKintosh did not expect to lift a caman for Scotland this season but now he wants to lift the Marine Harvest shinty-hurling series trophy.
The Newtonmore attacker will lead the line today in Inverness as Drew MacNeil’s Scots aim to pull back a six-goal deficit from leg one against the Irish.
For MacKintosh, being involved at all marks another step in a major turnaround in his career. This term he switched to attack, won a league and cup double and scored more goals than anyone else in shinty.
Now he is aiming for the icing on the cake, as Scotland look to avenge Saturday’s 24-18 reverse at Croke Park, which was played in front of 29,000 supporters.
“I really enjoyed my international debut last weekend. It was a great experience and I just wished I’d been involved in the international set-up before now,” said the 31-year-old.
“I played at youth level for Scotland but, at Newtonmore, I’ve never really found my best position until this season. I’ve really enjoyed playing in the forward line the whole year and it has been good to score a few goals, even if I regret not scoring last week.
“Hopefully, that will change and we can turn things around in the series.”
