The prime minister has been quizzed by a north-east MP on plans to review green energy taxes.
David Cameron announced surprise plans last month to reconsider environmental levies which cost consumers an average £122 in their energy bills.
Sir Robert Smith asked Mr Cameron yesterday for reassurances that support to help keep poorer people’s homes warm would be safeguarded.
Mr Cameron responded: “Of course we want to see insulation programmes and of course we want to help people particularly vulnerable households to keep their bills down.
“But what we should be doing is looking at every subsidy and every levy and making sure it’s value for money and making sure it’s not in place for a moment longer than it’s needed.”
