Aberdeenshire Shield holders Turriff United will travel to Cove Rangers in the semi-finals after overcoming 10-man Fraserburgh 4-3 in a penalty shootout after the sides had shared six goals.
United led 2-0 thanks to a Gary Harris penalty and a Cammy Bowden volley but goals from Scott Barbour and Steven Davidson took the game into extra time.
Harris looked to have scored the winner again from the spot until Graham Johnston’s 117th-minute header tied the game.
Former Don Darren Mackie’s international clearance came through and he made his Turriff debut.
In the 13th minute Turriff opened the scoring. Bryan Hay upended Gary McGowan in the box and Harris beat Scott Cowe from the resultant spot kick. Turriff doubled their advantage when Bowden’s first-time effort from a Harris cross gave Cowe no chance.
In the 64th minute the Broch pulled one back when Russell McBride picked out Scott Barbour who kept his cool to score.
Turriff withdrew the impressive Mackie in the 72nd minute and within a minute the Broch were back on level terms, substitute Davidson sweeping the ball wide of Coutts.
Broch’s Peter-Alexander Bruce picked up his second yellow card and subsequently a red having earlier been booked for diving.
Eight minutes into extra time Turriff were awarded their second penalty, Russell McBride pulled back McGowan in the box and once again Harris made an immaculate job from the spot.
With three minutes left Fraserburgh equalised when Graham Johnston nodded a Ryan Cowie cross home from three-yards.
