Caley Thistle assistant manager Maurice Malpas insists it is premature to suggest he will follow Terry Butcher out of Caledonian Stadium.
Butcher missed training yesterday to continue talks with Hibernian about becoming their manager, leaving Malpas in charge of team affairs.
Should Butcher accept the Hibs offer and the Edinburgh club agrees a compensation package with the Highlanders, Malpas is expected to follow Butcher in making the move to the capital.
But the former Dundee United defender yesterday played down such suggestions.
Malpas said: “You’re jumping ahead of yourself (in asking about my future).
” I’m here, I’ve got a job to do and I take a lot of pride in my job.
“I get a big kick out of the work I’ve done if we win a game on a Saturday and the same will apply this weekend.
“I just want the players to go out there, play football, get three points and let me get my fish supper in peace.
“Terry has got a decision to make and it is up to him to make that decision. There are a million scenarios after that, depending on what he does.
“I’m here to make sure we’re prepared properly. Terry missed training today and he does that sometimes but I just get on with it. We talk at the start of the week about what we are doing and it has been the same this week.”
While Butcher has been deliberating his future, Malpas has spent the week ensuring the Inverness players are prepared for tomorrow’s game – ironically, at Hibernian.
In a week where speculation about the future of the manager has been intense, his assistant has worked diligently to ensure the media spotlight and speculation does not have an adverse effect on the players
Malpas added: “It has been a normal week in terms of what we have done in training.
“There has been a lot of speculation and lot of people well off the mark. We have spoken to the players and told them it’s important we concentrate on preparing for the game on Saturday and the job of trying to get all three points.
“Our job is to win football games – as an individual, a team and a club. We had a couple of good results last week and it’s important we go to Easter Road and win.”
Caley Jags full back David Raven is fit again but Danny Williams is expected to miss out after suffering a kick on a shin while playing for the under-20s on Tuesday.
