The Queen’s Baton Relay heads for Shetland tomorrow and local residents will have the chance to join in the celebrations at locations across the area.
The baton is on its way around Scotland, covering more than 400 communities in advance of the start of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on July 23.
In Shetland, there will be 99 baton bearers who have been nominated by the community and secondary schools.
There are also a small number of people who have been nominated by major sponsors and Commonwealth Games Scotland.
Shetland Islands Council has organised four school and community events at Sandwick, Scalloway, Aith and Brae, including music, parades, dancing and sport.
Each event will last for several hours, with the baton making an appearance for at least 20 minutes.
Tomorrow’s route starts at Sumburgh Airport at around 8am, according to the schedule provided by organisers.
There will be a schools and community event at Sandwick starting at around 9am before the baton continues on to Lerwick South, starting from the Upper Sound at around 10.15am. There will be an event at Clickimin Athletic Track running from 10am-2.30pm.
It will then be on to Scalloway Fraser Park from Upper Scalloway Junction at around 11.15am, with a community event at Fraser Park from 11am onwards.
From there, it is on to Aith, with the route starting from Eid Shop at 1pm.
In Brae, the baton will start its journey from Delting Boating Club at around 2.40pm, with another community event running from 11.15am-4pm.
The final leg of the tour of Shetland will be Lerwick north and central, starting from the Holmsgarth Ferry Terminal at around 4.30pm.
The baton will begin the Lerwick route from Holmsgarth Road and make its way around the museum and archives and Mareel before sailing on the Dim Riv to the Small Boat Harbour.
It will then travel along Commercial Street, around the South end of Lerwick and the Knab before making its way back through the streets to the evening celebration event at the Clickimin athletics track.
There will also be a Games for Scotland Big Bash event at Clickimin Main Hall from 7.45pm.
There will be a number of no waiting traffic restrictions in place in Lerwick from noon-7pm.
These will be at Knab Road beyond Gressy Loan, east side of Twageos Road, South Commercial Street, one side of Breiwick Road from St Olaf Street to Knab Road, the west side of Hillhead from Scalloway Road to Prince Alfred Street, the west side of Lower Hillhead, the east side of King Harald Street, Hayfield Lane, Commercial Street and the Market Cross.
There will be also be no waiting from 8.30am-7pm at Commercial Road below Fort Charlotte.
There will be no driving from 4pm-7pm at Commercial Street and the Market Cross, Commercial Road below Fort Charlotte and Knab Road beyond Gressy Loan.
