Kilmarnock Supporters’ Association chairman Sandy Armour reckons Kenny Shiels would bring the crowds back to Caledonian Stadium if he were appointed Caley Thistle manager.
Shiels was in charge of Killie from June 2011 to June 2013, overseeing youth development and going into the community with visits to pubs and supporters’ homes to encourage more to attend games and buy season tickets.
The Northern Irishman is in contention to replace Terry Butcher, who left the Highland club last week to take charge of Hibs.
Armour reckons Shiels, who led Killie to a League Cup triumph in March 2012, is ideally suited to the job.
He said: “Caley Thistle are in the same situation as Kimarnock. They don’t have much money and Kenny was at the centre of the community with us and lived and breathed the club.
“He spent so much time working for the club I am surprised his wife saw him at all. I have no doubt he would be successful at Caley Thistle.
“Kenny is sorely missed at Kilmarnock and I think he is ideally suited for Inverness. He would be the perfect fit.”
