Fourth-year pupil Christine Chau, who also plays for Bon Accord MBC, is the only player from the area to be chosen for the training camp after impressing at an inter-district tournament in Edinburgh.
The goalkeeper is absolutely delighted to make the squad. The 15-year-old said: “I was almost in tears when I got the letter to say I had made the team. It was a great feeling.
“I have been involved in the Scotland development squad before but this is the first time I have made the under-16 team so I am really looking forward to it.”
Chau’s Scottish development regional coach Sandy Keith said: “Christine trains really hard and it is great to see that hard work paying off. She is one of the most promising talents from the area.”
Karen Norval, St Margaret’s head of physical education, said: “Christine has made rapid progress. She has been working really hard and we are really proud of her. She is a real all-rounder and good at every sport she tries.
“She is in our badminton team and is also very good at gymnastics and basketball. But hockey is where she is really excelling. I’ve been at the school for 10 years and she is certainly one of the most exciting talents I’ve seen.”
