The first performance at Aberdeen’s newly refurbished Tivoli Theatre has been unveiled as the Russian Classical Gala, in aid of children’s charity Aberlour.
Dancers from the Russian Ballet Theatre will perform scenes from the likes of the Nutcracker and Swan Lake.
The performers will be joined by acclaimed soprano Oxana Lesnichaya from the world-famous Bolshoi Theatre.
Walkers Shortbread has sponsored, bringing the Russian Classical Gala to the north-east and all proceeds from sales of the Tivoli evening, as well as two further concerts in Aberlour and Elgin, will go directly to the charity.
The event is also being supported by Stewart Spence, of the Marcliffe at Pitfodels.
Jim Walker, managing director of Walkers Shortbread, said: “The Russian Ballet Theatre group and Oxana are some of the best performers in the world.”
Marie-Claire Jones, fundraising manager for Aberlour, which works with young people throughout Scotland, said: “It is fantastic to be the beneficiary of the first concert to be staged at the historic Tivoli in almost 50 years.”
The ballet is the first concert to be held at the venue since 1966. It has recently undergone a major refurbishment, having closed as a bingo hall 15 years ago. The Tivoli Theatre performance will take place on November 30. On December 2, the Russian Classical Gala heads north for a further two concerts in aid of Aberlour.
Soprano Oxana will be joined by the choir from Speyside High School at the Speyside Auditorium in Aberlour village. On December 3, she will sing at Gordonstoun School in Elgin with the Russian Ballet Theatre also performing.
