Former Caley Thistle manager Terry Butcher wants his Hibernian players to surprise people with the type of football they play.
The Englishman was unveiled last Tuesday following his departure from Inverness and was joined at Easter Road by his long-time assistant Maurice Malpas.
He has taken charge of a side which has lost its last four games without scoring a goal, but the manager has been happy with what he has seen in training and now wants it transferred to games – starting with the trip to St Mirren on Saturday.
“There are good players here who haven’t played to their potential but now is their chance,” he said.
“The team and the club have had some harsh criticism this year, sometimes for the way they have played, sometimes for the results, but that is all in the past.
“We want them to surprise people by the way they play, surprise them in a nice way.
“It means they have to have the confidence in themselves to give their best.
“I wouldn’t say they have underachieved. They have certainly responded in the right way in training and shown me they want to be here and play for Hibs, entertain and win football games.
“If we can take what they have done so far in training and transmit that on to the pitch in games I will be quite happy because it has been very impressive so far.”
