Jamie Langfield has been in it for the long haul at Aberdeen but the 33-year-old will not be satisfied until he has silverware to show for his commitment to the Dons.
Langfield’s long service to Aberdeen continues after the goalkeeper signed a new deal which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2016.
His new contract will take his time at Pittodrie to 11 years and, while he can look back on a solid career boasting memorable games, the goalkeeper knows something is missing.
He said: “I know my new deal will take me up to 11 years with Aberdeen and it’s a great honour to be here that long.
“It will be a great sense of achievement for myself and, hopefully, I can keep it going and win another deal after that.
“It would be amazing to walk away from here with something tan- gible as a sense of achievement.
“It’s great saying I’ve played X amount of games and had X number of clean sheets but to win a cup would be massive.
“I want to be finishing as high up the table as possible and participating in cup finals and winning them.”
To win the big prizes you must win the big games and Langfield and his Aberdeen team-mates face one of those big occasions today at Celtic.
The Dons goalkeeper has been through the emotional wringer in previous games against the Hoops from the ignominy of the 9-0 defeat to the pain of losing a seven goal thriller last season.
Langfield has not savoured victory against the Hoops while playing for the Dons and he would love to change that statistic today. He said: “Celtic Park has not been the best of venues for me and I haven’t had the best of luck against Celtic in the past. The 9-0 game was a very sore one and people talk about it but for me the 4-3 game last year was worse.
“It felt worse because of the position we were in. We were 3-1 up with 15 minutes to go and 3-2 up with a couple of minutes to go so to lose it was awful.
“But all you can do is go again and hopefully we can put it to bed. It’s not about me, it’s about the team performance.
“We will have a big away support and they will get right behind us.
“I don’t think I’ve ever beaten Celtic with Aber- deen. I’ve won there with Dundee and it would be good to put that one to bed by getting a winning result on Saturday.
“We’re going there in good form and we’re confident. A lot of people say Celtic raise their game against us as they always seem to play really well against us.”
