A church in Shetland has been awarded money from a £260,000 Lottery fund for vital repair works.
The North Roe Methodist Church, North Roe, Shetland, will receive £7,100 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) to replace its windows, and help provide better facilities to make the church more suitable for wider community use.
This C-listed church is the most northerly Methodist church on the Shetland mainland and has served the local community since 1828.
The news came as the HLF yesterday announced the funding for four of Scotland’s historic churches in urgent need of repair.
Colin McLean, head of HLF Scotland, said: “Places of worship are among the UK’s most historic buildings, with fascinating stories behind them. This money will pay for urgent repairs, whilst also helping to tell the stories of these special places to visitors. As a result the buildings themselves will be more used by the whole community, and properly cared for into the future.”
