Image: DC Thomson. Fire crews were taken by lifeboat to fight a wildfire on a Hebridean island today. Three fire crews were rushed to Scalpay off Broadford on Skye by Kyle Lifeboat, which was launched at 3.36pm. Broadford, Kyle and Lochcarron crews responded to the alarm, which was first raised at around 1.30pm. The firefighters fought the blaze with portable sprayers and fire beaters were used to put out the blaze. At its peak at about 3.30pm, a fire spokeswoman said that the fire covered an area of five acres. The fire was extinguished at about 5.45pm.
