Nexen Petroleum UK Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the China National Offshore Oil Corporation, is the largest oil and gas operator by volume in the UK Continental Shelf – based on volume in 2013.
The UK business is set to build on its success as it gears up for the first oil production later this year from Golden Eagle – the largest discovery since Buzzard was discovered in the UK North Sea.
Demonstrating its confidence in exploration in the UKCS, the company continues to actively explore in the area.
Nexen, a major player and employer in the north-east, is happy also to give back to the communities in which it operates.
Nexen takes an active approach in fulfilling its social responsibility to people, local communities and the environment. Its commitment to social responsibility initiatives has earned it successive places on the Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World.
The company has a tradition of supporting charitable organisations through financial donations.
A recent initiative, run across the Nexen global network, saw 55 UK charities benefit, including Cancer Research UK, British Heart Foundation, The Archie Foundation and the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.
Nexen also engages with and invests in communities through the sponsorship of charities and organisations which aim to protect the environment, cultivate the arts and provide educational and learning opportunities for young and disabled people.
It is an active supporter of the new RNLI lifeboat station at Stonehaven, Aberdeen International Youth Festival, Outward Bound Trust, The Prince’s Trust and Techfest – the annual festival of Stem (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects held in Aberdeen.
Nexen is also sponsoring an exhibition at Aberdeen Art Gallery and supporting a number of undergraduate scholarships at 11 UK universities including Aberdeen, St Andrews and Edinburgh.
Steve Regulski, chairman of the Nexen UK donations committee, said: “Communities are at their best when they enrich and inspire, educate and motivate and provide care to individuals and families who need it most. Through Nexen’s ReachOut programme, we help strengthen our communities through three ways – by giving, matching and helping.
“We are extremely proud to make strategic donations in the communities in which we operate.
“We also reward our workforce for their own efforts by matching their fundraising efforts and provide help through volunteering initiatives, scholarships and by through supporting educational events.”
