A helicopter was scrambled yesterday after a tourist walking on a Shetland nature reserve – twisted her ankle.
The woman, in her 60s, had to be airlifted from remote Hermaness, in Unst.
Shetland Coastguard was alerted at around 12.30pm and immediately sent the helicopter on the 80-mile round trip to the northerly isle.
The casualty was taken to the Clickimin landing site in Lerwick and transferred to the Gilbert Bain Hospital for treatment.
A coastguard spokeswoman said: “The lady had fallen and twisted her ankle. We tasked the voluntary coastguard team from Baltasound was well as the helicopter because she couldn’t walk.”
