A proposal to transform the former Bruce Miller’s music shop in Aberdeen into a nine-storey hotel with rooftop bar could be approved next week.
Planners have recommended councillors back the plans for the building, which has been empty since 2011, arguing it could breathe new life into the west end of Union Street.
Developer Tip Top Properties wants to create a 134-bedroom hotel with a bar-restaurant opening on to Langstane Place at the rear.
The front of the property, at 363 Union Street, would be retained – including the famous Bruce Miller’s clock. But the rear section backing on to Langstane Place would be demolished and replaced with a modern extension.
Backers of the scheme have said it could create 100 jobs.
Proposals have been modified following public consultation events. However, councillors have been asked to rule on the application when they meet next Thursday after a number of letters were sent to planners, raising concerns about issues such as parking, traffic congestion and the effect on the Union Street conservation area.
Aberdeen City Council planning chiefs are recommending approval of the application, on the condition of securing a developer contribution to improvements in the area.
