Promoter Tommy Gilmour believes unbeaten Inverness heavyweight Gary Cornish is ready to become one of the top fighters in his division in Europe next year.
The 26-year-old Cornish takes on 42-fight veteran Croatian Ivica Perkovic at the Copper Box Arena in London tonight aiming to make it 17 bouts without loss.
Gilmour reckons Cornish, whose fight is on the undercard of Dereck Chisora’s WBA and WBO international title bout against the Czech Republic’s Ondrej Pala, is capable of moving to the upper echelons of the heavyweight ranks.
He said: “Perkovic boxed five rounds with another up-and-coming prospect in Hughie Fury in Ireland.
“He will be no pushover and it is an important fight for Gary. He has been sparring with Dereck Chisora and it was exactly the type of thing he needed.
“We want him to finish 2013 with a bit of a bang, as 2014 is going to be a major year for him. The primary education will be finished and he will be going into the real world.
“We want to move Gary up next year and put him into a good position in Europe.”
Gilmour has big plans as Cornish goes for 17 fights unbeaten
