The man had climbed inside the stone structure but was 20ft up when he realised he could not get down. The battery at Hoxa Head, South Ronaldsay, has views out towards Scapa Flow. The incident happened on Friday at 7.45am but has only just been revealed by the fire service. The man contacted the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service who sent an appliance from St Margaret’s Hope. Crews used a short extension ladder and led the man down to safety. A fire spokesman said that the man was not injured and he was reunited with his dog which was waiting patiently for him on the ground.
