A 15-year-old Belgian girl was airlifted to hospital yesterday after being injured on isolated sand dunes in the Western Isles.
The girl, believed to be on an organised youth camp trip, fractured her ankle on the sandy machair on the north coast of Berneray, off North Uist.
Vehicles could not get near the casualty due to the terrain, so Stornoway Coastguard scrambled a helicopter to the scene at about noon.
Volunteer coastguards from Griminish and paramedics went to her aid until the aircraft flew her to hospital in Stornoway.
Meanwhile a Spanish fisherman suffering from stomach pains was airlifted off a trawler in the Minch on Saturday.
The 38-year-old man was taken to Broadford Hopsital in Skye after being in taken off the Spanish-flagged MV Monte Meixueiro by the Stornoway Coastguard helicopter at about 8.40am.
