The suspension bridge at Sponish, near Lochmaddy in North Uist has been deemed unsafe by a Western Isles Council engineer. Warning signs are being displayed at the bridge, which was built in the late 1980s, and is now in need of renovation before it is opened again. A council spokesman said that discussions are ongoing with the landowners and other interested parties on the future use of the bridge.
