An Orkney councillor has resigned his seat for personal reasons.
Jack Moodie, who represented the Kirkwall West and Orphir ward, said he no longer felt motivated and enthusiastic about the job.
He said: “On the one hand, I have struggled with motivation and enthusiasm for the job for several years.
“The summer break has helped me see clearly that I no longer can sit through meetings any longer.”
Mr Moodie, who was first elected to the ward in 2007, said the job of a councillor had become bogged down with red tape and he felt he was achieving very little for local people.
The council, which has no party affiliated elected members, is expected to announce details of a by-election shortly.
