A vital transport service will be provided for a Western Isles hospice after it received a £10,000 cash boost.
The grant, from NHS Western Isles, will enable Bethesda Hospice in Stornoway to invest in a new van to carry out many functions, such as collecting essential medical supplies.
It will also be used to transport blood for patients requiring transfusions, as well as picking up bulky items for the unit’s charity shop.
Bethesda General Manager, Carol Somerville, said: “We are extremely grateful to NHS Western Isles for assisting us to purchase a new van.
NHS Western Isles Nurse Director, Sandy Brown, who presented the cheque for £10,000, added: “We were delighted to have been able to provide this grant to enable Bethesda to purchase an essential new vehicle.
“Bethesda provides an invaluable service of an extremely high standard, which is sincerely appreciated by the local community, as well as NHS Western Isles.”
