Social media has been a central tool for both sides of the Independence debate, with countries worldwide partaking in the action.
And with the polls currently too close to call, Twitter has been another means of predicting the result, which according to a ‘Tweet analysis’ by researchers at Robert Gordon University (RGU), is Yes.
RGU academics analysed a sample of Tweets this morning that show 54% of tweeters have said they voted Yes today, with 46% of users saying No.
Professor Sarah Pedersen said: “Our sample now stands at 46% No and 54% Yes, which is about what we suspected it would be, given the dominance of the Yes camp on Twitter.
“It possibly reflects the feeling by Yes supporters that a more personal statement of their vote is needed for such a historic occasion while the No voters are happier to use a formula rather than explain their decision.”
