As soon as the counting started, across the country Twitter was awash with speculation of a final result and thanks from both sides to their campaigners.
Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon was one of the first to speak out, while she was quickly followed by Nick Clegg and a number of other politicians.
So that's that. Polls have closed. What an amazing, emotional, inspirational day of democracy this has been. Now we wait. #indyref

But while there has been months of campaigning on each side, one positive to come from tonight for the whole country has been the incredible turnout from voters.
