The leader of Aberdeenshire Council has said he is “quietly confident” the better together campaign will be victorious.
Speaking at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Center tonight Mid-Formartine councillor Jim Gifford said the general feel is that voters have been voting no. He said the ballot papers from this count seems to be around 60% No 40% Yes.
However the Conservative Councillor said that whatever the vote he believed the debate had been beneficial for engaging the Scottish population in politics.
He said: “People have been involved in this debate having never been interest in politics before. It really is great for democracy.”
Councillor Gifford said he believed the turnout in Aberdeenshire had be around 80% however said final figures were not available yet.
