Out of the 14,907 votes cast and accepted, a total of 10,004 – or 67.2% – were in favour of remaining part of the United Kingdom. There were 4,883 Yes votes cast. There were huge cheers as the results were announced in Kirkwall. The turnout for the island was 83.7%. It is understood Shetland’s declaration will be made shortly.
