Alex Salmond spent the final few hours before the polls closed thanking Yes voters and posing for pictures.
Throughout the day, the First Minister remained in the north of Scotland, near his Aberdeenshire home village of Strichen – where he has also opted to stay as the results come in throughout the night.
The votes are now in and being counted but below we take a look how Salmond spent his final few pre vote hours.
He started the day posting his own vote alongside first time voters before meeting groups of voters and Yes campaigners.
