The referendum is over but the time for a stronger Scottish government with a more involved electorate is just beginning – that was the message from politicians across the parties who took to Twitter after the vote.
In his post results speech Alex Salmond said: “I accept the verdict of the Scottish people and expect all people to follow suit.”
Shortly after his speech, Salmond took to Twitter and encouraged independence supporters to focus on the progress made during the referendum campaign.
Let's not dwell on the distance we've fallen short – let us dwell on the distance we have travelled

Meanwhile independence supporter Patrick Harvie encouraged people to remain involved in politics even now the referendum is over.
Well the result looks disappointing. But losing the energy & motivation of people who've become re-engaged in politics would be even worse.

While Welsh First Minister Carwyn Jones pledged to work with Scotland and the rest of the UK to form a “new constitutional future for the UK.”
Pleased the people of Scotland have voted to remain in the Union – together we will shape a new constitutional future for the UK.

Finally, former First Minister Jack McConnell encouraged a new multicultural UK political scene.
It is over. Accept the result and move on. But UK and Scottish politics needs to change. A modern multinational multicultural UK. #indyref
