A 16-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly wielding a firearms on Shetland.
Police on the island received reports of the man “acting suspiciously” in the Scord area of Scalloway, on Shetland’s West coast. at around 1pm.
Firearms officers were called from both Shetland and the mainland to bring the situation under control.
It is thought the man may have been in possession of an air rifle.
A police spokeswoman said: “Police Scotland can confirm that a 16-year-old man is in custody in connection with an alleged firearms incident in Shetland.
“At around 1pm officers received reports of a man acting suspiciously and appeared to be in possession of a fire arm in the Scord area of Scalloway, in Shetland.
“Armed officers both in Shetland with support from armed officers in the mainland were deployed and located the man in Murrayston area of Lerwick where he was arrested at approximatly 5.15pm.
“No one was injured and inquiries are continuing into the incident.”
The police spokeswoman said she was not aware of any shots being fired.
Officers are also investigating whether the incident is related to an abandoned inflatable boat in Scalloway Harbour, which the man was said to have been spotted on with the gun this afternoon.
