The first hole allows players to get off to a fairly gentle start to the Ryder Cup (as long as they are able to forgot the fact that the eyes of the world will be on them as they tee off).
The hole is slightly downhill with a dogleg to the right and a bunker to be wary of, but with the quality of players on show at the Ryder Cup, we should see a few opening hole birdries.
Hole facts
Name: Bracken Brae
Distance: 426 yards
Par: four
Top tip:Â The drive should be played down the left of the fairway to open up the green.
Andrew Jowett, Head Professional at Gleneagles Resort, says
Most players take a driver and hit past the fairway bunker on the right. This leaves a slight downhill approach to the green. The safe approach is to the left centre of the green, even when the pin is positioned back right (on last day).
