An English speaking parrot, missing for four years, has returned to his owner – now speaking Spanish.
Darren Chick, a Brit living in California, lost the African grey parrot, who spoke with a British accent in 2010 – it is unclear where the parrot has been over the last four years but he has lost his British accent, no longer speaks English and is now fluid in Spanish.
The missing bird was returned thanks to his microchip which identified him as Chick’s and the shocked owner told the Daily Breeze: “He’s doing perfect. It’s really weird, I knew it was him from the minute I saw him.”
Teresa Micco, a local vet in California, was able to help to return the parrot after the bird turned up in a nearby garden and was handed in to his shop.
Micco told the newspaper: “I introduced myself and said, ‘Have you lost a bird?’
“He initially said, ‘No.’ But he thought I meant recently.”
Chick said that he was delighted with the reunion – he even forgave the parrot for trying to bite him when he first returned!
The news follows on from today’s revelation that a parrot from West Lothian was confusing itself for a chicken…
