Bomb disposal experts today made safe three wartime mines found on an Outer Hebridean beach.
It is believed that recent storms revealed that the World War II practice mines below the high water mark at Steinish Beach near Stornoway on Lewis.
A Stornoway Coastguard spokesman said a walker had first seen the devices on Sunday in an area that was used for ordnance training during the last war. The small mines were below the high water line and were not an apparent danger to the public, said coastguards.
A Navy Bomb Disposal Unit from Faslane carried out controlled explosions today at 10.51pm.
