Competitive spirit was alive in the pool this month when Aberdeen Sports Village Aquatics Centre hosted its first corporate event.

Active engagement specialists, ActivityMix, held its swimming event sponsored by LR Senergy at the state of the art facilities, taking advantage of the Olympic standard 50m pool, 25m pool and spectator area for up to 600 guests.

The swimming tournament was the last sporting event of the Corporate Decathlon 2014 employee engagement programme which is designed to help motivate, reward, attract, retain and develop staff. Teams from 26 oil and gas companies took to the water to compete in freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and relay events which culminated in Corporate Decathlon points.

In League 1, AMEC took first place with TAQA in second and LR Senergy in third place. In League 2, Atkins took the lead in first place, with Proserv as runner up and PWC in third place. The points from this event will be compiled with those from nine other events which have taken place throughout the year to determine the winners of the Corporate Decathlon 2014.

Les Coats, region manager with LR Senergy said: “We wanted to sponsor this event as swimming is such an accessible sport that so many people can take part in. Our team is very excited to be competing in this Olympic standard pool and it’s fantastic that this new venue has enabled swimming to be included in the Corporate Decathlon this year.”

Amanda Inglis, business development manager at ActivityMix added:

“The event was a great end to the season and we look forward to revealing the final leaderboard at the Sports Awards Ball later this month. We were delighted to host the event at Aberdeen Sports Village and showcase the amazing facilities to our clients.

“Our aim is to encourage employees to come together using sport as a vehicle as well as promote a healthy lifestyle so it’s great to be ending the season with such a popular sport that has brought people from across organisations together in a fun and social way.”

The final scores for both the Corporate Decathlon and Corporate Pentathlon will be revealed at the Sports Awards Ball on Friday, October, 24.

ActivityMix is now recruiting teams for the Corporate Decathlon and Corporate Pentathlon 2015 which will begin early in 2015.
