Boris Johnson has once again shown why he didn’t pursue a career in sport – this time with a poorly timed tackle on a nine-year-old boy.
While playing in a charity football match in 2006, Johnson famously made a somewhat unconventional challenge on former Maurizio Gaudino, as seen in the video below.
However, not content with trying to cause injury to former German international footballers, Johnson’s antics on the football pitch stooped to a new level yesterday as he tripped up a primary school child during a friendly kickabout on the grass outside of City Hall.
Johnson apologised immediately for the mistimed tackle but the youngsters are rumoured to be considering suspending him from the next few kickabouts…
Of course Johnson’s sporting controversies don’t start and end in the world of football. While he was meant to be thanking China for their hosting of the 2006 Beijing Olympics, he instead took credit for the invention of ‘most international sports’ and told the world that ping pong was ‘coming home to England’ for the 2010 London Olympics.
