A man captured on video leaping from his lorry on a six-lane motorway and trying to force his way into a terrified family’s car has been sacked.
The video of the incident, which happened on the approach to the Forth Road Bridge on Thursday evening during the rush-hour, went viral online and the driver’s employers, Driver Hire Nationwide, have now sacked him.
The driver had been working for the Bradford-based agency, in their Glenrothes depot, for more than six months.
Richard Owen-Hughes, Group Marketing Director of Driver Hire Nationwide said: “We have been made aware of this incident and the behaviour of the driver in question is clearly not acceptable under any circumstances.
“We operate very stringent recruitment procedures. We are conducting an investigation into this incident but we can confirm that this driver will not be working for us in the future.
“This driver had been with us for some time and his conduct had not previously given cause for concern. Nevertheless we would repeat that this incident is totally unacceptable and we regret any distress caused to the family in question.”
A spokesman for Carr’s Flour Mills said: “In response to the video posted this morning of an incident with an agency driver of one of our vehicles in a traffic queue near the Forth Road Bridge yesterday.
“We wish to confirm that this behaviour is disgraceful and totally unacceptable to Carr’s Flour Mills. The driver was not one of our employees, but an agency driver providing holiday cover.
“He has been removed from our vehicles, and the agency are investigating the matter.
“We regret any distress caused to the family involved.”
A Police Scotland spokesman said they are not investigating the footage because they have not had an official complaint from the family. A spokesperson also said it would need the “orginal video” to take action on the footage.
