An Oban couple lived in a cave for five months after being evicted from homeless accommodation.
Cameron Logan, who is disabled, was asked to leave the Ross House, after breaching his agreement by offering his homeless partner shelter in his small flat.
The pair could not find alternative accommodation and ended up sleeping rough in a cave overlooking Oban Bay where they stayed for five months.
Mr Logan, who uses crutches to walk, said: “I’ve always been from the area, so I knew the cave was there. It was all we had and our only option – the only place we could go if we hoped to survive.
“We slept in sleeping bags with our heads poking out of the front of the cave.”
The couple used old carpet and pallets to furnish the shelter but struggled to cope with the cold, wet conditions.
The cave was close to a public footpath and the walls were covered in insects, cobwebs and water which seeped in from the ceiling cracks.
Mr Logan, 50, said: “We had no showers and had to wash ourselves under the taps in the local public halls just to make ourselves clean.
“Nothing about it was hygienic. It was no way for a man and a woman to live.”
And Mr Logan was not the only one living outside.
His friends Stephen Kelly and his partner Ashley McGuire were forced to live in a tent when they were evicted from their accommodation.
Despite the eviction being overruled, the council could not offer replacement accommodation because of a social housing crisis.
Mr Kelly said: “We spent five-and-a-half months living in this two-man tent. It was always damp, we had to pile all we could to keep us from the sodding ground sheet.”
The Blue Triangle Housing Association, which is understood to have dealt with Mr Logan’s case, said they did not comment on specific cases, while Argyll and Bute Council urged people finding themselves homeless to contact their offices.
