An Aberdeen-based apprenticeship training firm has played host to graduate engineers from a major oil services company participating in an individually tailored hands-on workshop course.
ITCA Training, which was established in 1989 and is one of the largest engineering apprenticeship training firms in Scotland, delivered the practical course to graduates from Aker Solutions recently.
The group from Aker Solutions attended ITCA Training’s headquarters at the Kirkhill Industrial Estate, in Dyce, for the six-week course, which offers graduates who have already completed a degree a wider understanding of practical skills and workshop health and safety awareness.
The bespoke course was created to offer the participants practical, hands-on experience in welding, oxy-fuel safety, abrasive wheels, fitting and assembly, turning and milling, hydraulics, CNC, and health and safety.
ITCA Training managing director, June Jones, said: “We created our first hands-on skills training course in 2013, and it has proved to be popular with our clients as it highlights the importance of understanding how the practical elements fit into the job role the graduates have within Aker Solutions.
“It is beneficial for them to know how and why things may have to be designed in a particular way and the processes involved in the actual construction of an end product. This is the first time we have had Aker Solutions graduates on the intense hand skills programme, and we hope we will be welcoming another intake in the future.”
