Rising water levels threaten houses in Western Isles

Firefighters are battling to prevent rising water levels flooding a row of houses close to a Western Isles coast.

A fire service spokeswoman said they received the call to the incident at Bayhead, north of Benbecula, in North Uist, just before 3.30pm.

She said a crew from Bayhead was at the scene pumping water out of various areas.

She added that it been raining heavily in the area but did not know whether a rising tide had added to the problem.

The spokeswoman said Western Isles Council had been asked to clear drains in the area.
