These are the new images of a proposed £43million secondary school in Shetland.
The new Anderson High School is shown to have a spectacular dining room atrium, with light spilling down into the hall from a sloped roof of glass.
The pictures have been released after island councillors, parents and other stakeholders were given an update on progress on the project.
They were told that financial agreements will be signed in March next year, with construction beginning on the Clickimin site the following month.
Plans for the new school were approved by the Shetlands Islands Council planning committee in September, with unanimous backing for proposals.
However the new school will not be complete until April 2017 – more than a year after it was expected – after officials imposed 25 planning conditions which need to be met before work starts.
Yesterday Angus Macfarlane, Hub North Scotland chief executive, said: “Hub North Scotland and Shetland Islands Council are working in partnership with legal, funding, design and contracting teams to get to financial close. This will bring certainty on the programme, cost and quality.
“This is a revenue project and the hub process is designed to get the best value for money solution for our client and the communities they serve.
“It is an exciting time for the project, having recently had planning approved. The main contractor Morrison Construction is currently in the middle of the tendering process and actively engaging with local contractors as we press ahead.”
Shetland Islands Council has already committed £14million as its contribution to the project with the remaining two-thirds coming from the Scottish Government.
The new school will have 39 classrooms, 12 science laboratories, art studios, music and home economics classrooms, a library and an assembly hall.
The campus will also have an additional support needs unit and accommodation block for boarding pupils amongst a range of features.
Once completed, the local authority will save hundred of thousands pounds in maintenance costs to the existing Anderson High School. The project team is working on finalising the internal layout of the new school, which will now be a timber-cladded four-storey building.
