Draper ready for the dawn of new era

Draper ready for the dawn of new era

Caley Thistle midfielder Ross Draper believes the new Inverness manager will find nothing but positives when he arrives this week.

Inverness are in the process of completing their interviews and chairman Kenny Cameron hopes to appoint Terry Butcher’s successor at Caledonian Stadium this week.

An end to the three-week recruitment process is in sight with Alloa manager Paul Hartley, former Kilmarnock manager Kenny Shiels and John Hughes, formerly of Falkirk and Hibernian, among those to have been interviewed.

It has been business as usual on the field with the club cruising through to today’s fifth round draw of the Scottish Cup with a 4-0 win against Morton on Saturday.

Draper believes the feelgood factor is in full effect at the Highlanders and reckons the incoming manager will find a harmonious and vibrant atmosphere in the dressing room.

He said: “It is a good job for somebody to come into. It is a great changing room and we’re still in three competitions, so it is a case of just carrying on the good work.

“Duncan Shearer and Scott Kellacher, as care- takers – along with Richie Foran – have pulled together over the last three weeks and done a great job with three wins.

“It was important we all stuck together at a potentially difficult time.

“Managers always lose their job or move on, so it was nothing major, but the three of them have stepped up superbly.

“It’s a credit to them and the rest of the players that we have kept a winning run going.”

Caley Jags had to take the long road to seal their place in the draw on Saturday after the match was delayed by 30 minutes due to a power failure in Inverness.

Draper joked he felt as if he had been playing all day but was relieved to have come through a challenging situation by seeing off the challenge of the Championship side.

He said: “It was a minute or two away from being abandoned, so it was hard going. We were in the changing rooms for half an hour, then had 10 minutes to warm up.

“It wasn’t easy to get going again, but it was the same for both teams. Neither team wanted to come back and replay it on a Tuesday night. We didn’t need another fixture. It was a strange game. We didn’t play well first half, although that can happen when you play lower division teams.”
