When a spectacular fashion show took place in the north-east earlier this year, it was the models, rather than the outfits, that were the star attraction.
Some 24 women strutted their stuff during the inaugural Courage on the Catwalk at Aberdeen’s Beach Ballroom, a special event organised by cancer charity Friends of Anchor.
Aside from celebrating the models’ looks, the main purpose of April show was to applaud their strength, determination and willpower, as all of those who took part had either battled cancer or were living with the disease.
Last night, Friends of Anchor announced that preparations are under way for Courage on the Catwalk 2014.
A search has started for the next group of models to take part.
Sarah-Jane Hogg, the Friends of Anchor’s fundraising manager, said the charity is looking for 24 women, of all shapes and sizes, who have faced a cancer diagnosis, and who think they have what it takes to go on stage.
Following the success of this year’s show, which sold out and raised more than £56,000 for cancer research projects in Aberdeen, Mrs Hogg said she hoped 2014 would be bigger and even better.
“Every one of us involved in the show, the models included, were dumbfounded by the sheer generosity and support Courage on the Catwalk garnered,” she said.
“Not only did it help raise funds and awareness for Friends of Anchor, but more than that, it changed the lives of 24 women and the lives of those around them.
“Being a part of Courage on the Catwalk, whether it’s behind the scenes, in the preparations in the lead up to the event or being one of the lucky members of the audience, not one person can leave unaffected.
“That’s why we feel so passionate about what Courage on the Catwalk 2014 has in store and we can’t wait to read the nominations and applications that come through from those wanting to strut their stuff on the catwalk in the fight against cancer.”
