The Scottish company behind power systems used at Glastonbury, the 2010 Fifa World Cup and the 2012 Olympic Games in London will be lighting up circuses following its latest contract win.
Temporary power specialist Aggreko said yesterday it would be working behind the scenes at big top performances by Cirque du Soleil over the next four years.
The deal will see Aggreko provide temporary power and temperature control services at circuses in the US, Canada, Latin America, Europe and Asia-Pacific. “This will ensure each location has a stable and reliable power supply which is completely independent of the local electricity grid,” the Glasgow-based company said.
Chief executive Rupert Soames added: “We are delighted to be partnering with such an iconic global entertainment brand as Cirque du Soleil.
“Our extensive experience in supporting major international events, along with our global footprint, make Aggreko an excellent match for Cirque du Soleil’s power and temperature control requirements.”
Aggreko is the biggest provider of temporary power and temperature-control systems globally.
The value of its latest deal was not disclosed but it adds circuses to the firm’s already impressive event portfolio.
In addition to bringing electricity to parts of the world where there is no permanent supply, including disaster zones, Aggreko is a familiar name at most big sports occasions.
It has powered music festivals, Olympic games, golf and football tournaments, US presidential inaugurations and Eurovision Song Contests. With performances in a variety of locations globally, Cirque du Soleil required power systems that would do the same job in any climate.
Cirque du Solei corporate alliances director Louis Malafarina said: “Aggreko will provide a complete solution for uninterruptable power along with an innovative and energy-efficient temperature control solution that meets the unique needs of our big top touring shows.”
