Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes has not ruled out the possibility of adding new faces to his squad during next month’s transfer window if he can wheel and deal in the loan market.
The Dons have reached the semi-finals of the League Cup and the last 16 of the Scottish Cup as well as sitting fifth in the Scottish Premiership.
McInnes is content with his squad but said: “There are two months between now and the end of the transfer window. A lot of football has to be played and a lot can happen.
“There can be a loss of form, injuries and suspensions so I would never rule anything out but I don’t anticipate us being too busy.
“We are where we are in terms of the budget for the season and I am happy with the way the squad has shaped up.
“Like every other manager, I would like to add one or two signings and there may well be a case for that if one or two are happy going out the other way or on loan.
“Never say never, but I wouldn’t anticipate being too busy. The squad we have is probably going to be more or less the squad we have right through until the end of the season.”
One man that McInnes is keen to see remaining at Pittodrie is on-loan Reading defender Michael Hector, pictured below.
The 21-year-old has impressed since joining the Dons, scoring a tremendous goal in the Scottish Premiership 4-0 thrashing of Partick Thistle on November 4 and has proved an admirable deputy as a holding midfielder when Barry Robson and Willo Flood were unavailable.
McInnes, who will come up against his former side St Johnstone on Saturday, is eager to keep Hector at the club and said: “It is something I have said I would like to happen. There is a possibility of it happening. Reading control the situation. We have been in constant dialogue with them and they have been delighted with how Michael has been doing and where he is.
“Circumstances at Reading might dictate things. There seems to be a willingness from all parties – Michael is keen to prolong his stay, Reading are keen for him to continue here if all is right and we are keen to have him as well. I would like to think something can get done.
“We don’t control that and time will tell.”
