Captain Foran likes the look of Hughes

The eyes have it for Caley Thistle captain Richie Foran.

Half an hour was all it took to convince the Inverness midfielder John Hughes was the right fit for the club.

The former Falkirk and Hibernian manager will take a watching brief from the stand today for his debut at St Mirren and Foran is intent on giving his new manager a day to remember.

He said: “I’m a believer the eyes don’t lie and I could tell straight away he was the right guy for us. The passion is there and he came across really well from his first half-hour chat with us.

“He has told us to carry on doing what we’re doing as we’ve done fantastic so far.

“We’ll enjoy learning from him as he has desire and hunger. We want to try our best to impress him and keep our run going.”

Hughes has decided not to tinker the tried and trusted successful approach for his first game in charge. Foran is pleased the players have been given the opportunity to show what they can do, but stressed had Hughes opted for a root and branch overhaul of the playing style he would have found no dissenting voices in the dressing-room.

He said: “He knows what he is doing and if he had come in and said ‘I’m changing this, this and this and we’re now going to do it my way’ the players would have backed him to the hilt as he’s the manager.

“Our job is to make sure what he wants happens, whatever way he wants to go. He has gone the other way and decided to leave things as they are for now, but he knows we will give him everything.”

Hughes has already felt the wrath of the club’s disciplinary code, incurring a fine on his first day in the job when his mobile phone rang in the dressing-room.

With the post-match trip to the chip shop still on, Foran is delighted his manager his immersed himself in the club’s practices. He said: “Straight in we hit him for a tenner for his mobile phone going off so I’m looking forward to picking that up from him. He took it well though.

“We enjoy our road trips and see them as a bonding session going up and down the A9. The manager wants to be part of that too which is great.”
